11 of 13 liquor stores fail alcohol compliance checks


IN WALLINGFORD –áELEVENá LIQUOR STORES ARE IN TROUBLE TONIGHT.POLICE SAY THEY SENT A TEEN TO 13 STORES THIS WEEK TO BUY ALCOHOL.ONLY TWO REFUSED TO SELL TO THE KID.NEWS 8’S RENEE CHMIEL IS LIVE IN WALLINGFORD WITH THE EXCUSES SOME OF THESE STORES ARE USING TONIGHT.RENEE.POLICE HERE DID CHECKS ON MONDAY AND YESTERDAY…TO SEE IF THE STORES WOULD SELL TO A MINOR A 19-YEAR-OLD WORKING WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WENT INTO 13 DIFFERENT LIQUOR STORES IN WALLINGFORD. AND TRIED TO BUY ALCOHOL. THE TEEN WAS ABLE TO MAKE A PURCHASE IN 11 OF THOSE STORES…AND WAS NEVER ASKED FOR IDENTIFICATION. DETECTIVES LATER SPOKE WITH CLERKS WHO SOLD THE ALCOHOL. THEY GAVE EXCUSES … LIKE “I FORGOT” OR “I WAS BUSY”EACH BUSINESS COULD FACE PENALTIES RANGING FROM A FINE TO A SUSPENSION OF THEIR LIQUOR LICENSE.
