Liquor store owner charged with sexually abusing employee; liquor licenses suspended


REACTION FROM WITNESSES COMING UP NEXT ON THE CBS EVENING NEWS. A LIQUOR STORE OWNER IS FACING A STRING OF CHARGES AFTER POLICE SAY HE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ONE OF HIS EMPLOYEES. THE MAN, WHO OWNS SHERIDAN LIQUOR IN THE TOWN OF THE TONAWANDA, WAS ARRESTED IN MAY. POLICE SAY HE PRESSURED THE 18- YEAR-OLD TO DRINK ALCOHOL, AND THEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED HER. NEWS 4’S JENN SCHANZ HAS MORE. JENN? JACQUIE, NASR MOHAMED RUNS THE SHERIDAN MARKET, WHICH INCLUDES THE SUNOCO AND THE SHERIDAN LIQUOR STORE ON SHERIDAN DRIVE IN THE TOWN OF TONAWANDA. HE CAN NO LONGER SELL LIQUOR THERE FOR THE TIME BEING, AS THE STATE LIQUOR AUTHORITY IS ALSO INVOLVED IN THIS CASE. POLICE SAY THIS ISN’T THE FIRST TIME MOHAMED HAS BEEN UNDER INVESTIGATION. LIQUOR IS OFF THE SHELVES AT THIS SUNOCO AND LIQUOR STORE ON SHERIDAN DRIVE. POLICE ARRESTED NASR MOHAMMED, WHO OWNS THE LIQUOR STORE AND MANAGES THE SUNOCO, FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN THE FIRST DEGREE. POLICE SAY HE PRESSURED A NEW FEMALE EMPLOYEE TO DRINK SHOTS OF LIQUOR, AND THEN ALLEGEDLY, SEXUALLY ASSAULTED HER. THE EMPLOYEE, IS 18-YEARS-OLD. ((“HE IS, BY ALL ACCOUNTS, TRYING TO GET HER INTO A VULNERABLE POSITION BY HAVING HER BECOME INTOXICATED. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST DEPLORABLE 18-YEARS-OLD. ((“THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME WE’VE RECEIVED ALLEGATIONS OF THIS NATURE AGAINST MR. MOHAMED. THERE’VE BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS IN THE LAST YEAR THAT WE HAD INVESTIGATED BUT FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER WERE NOT ABLE TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH CHARGES.”)) POLICE SAY THE EMPLOYEE FLED THE LIQUOR STORE AFTER THE INCIDENT AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO KENMORE MERCY HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF THESE CHARGES, THE STATE LIQUOR AUTHORITY ISSUED AN EMERGENCY SUSPENSION FOR BOTH OF MOHAMED’S STORES. ((“THE STATE ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE ACT AND THE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE AND CONTROL LAW AUTHORIZE OUR AGENCY TO SUMMARILY SUSPEND A LICENSE PRIOR TO A HEARING WHERE THE PUBLIC’S HEALTH, WELFARE, OR SAFETY IS OF AN IMMEDIATE CONCERN.”)) MOHAMED WAS RELEASED ON HIS OWN RECOGNIZANCE, AND IS DUE BACK IN COURT IN THE TOWN OF TONAWANDA MAY 22ND. THE STATE LIQUOR AUTHORITY IS CONDUCTING IT’S OWN SEPERATE CASE, AND SAY THE RE-INSTATEMENT OR PERMANENT REVOCATION OF A LIQUOR LICENSES DOES NOT DEPEND ON THE OUTCOME OF THE CRIMINAL CASE, ALTHOUH THEY ARE WATCHING IT
