Man seriously injured after stabbing near liquor store on State Street in Springfield

WE BEGIN WITH BREAKING NEWS IN SPRINGFIELD TONIGHT… WHERE A STABBING ON STATE STREET LEFT ONE PERSON WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. 22NEWS REPORTER SYDNEY SNOW JOINS US LIVE WITH WHAT WE KNOW RIGHT NOW. REPORTER: I’M HERE ON STATE STREET WHERE AN ADULT MAN WAS STABBED NEAR THIS LIQUOR STORE JUST AFTER 6:30 TONIGHT. ACCORDING TO SPRINGFIELD POLICE SPOKESMAN RYAN WALSH OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO THE 500 BLOCK OF STATE STREET FOR A REPORTED STABBING. THE MAN WAS TAKEN TO BAYSTATE MEDICAL CENTER WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. WHEN OUR 22NEWS CREWS GOT HERE THERE WERE AT LEAST SEVEN SPRINGFIELD POLICE CRUISERS IN FRONT OF THE BENTON PARK PACKAGE STORE AT 521 STATE STREET. THE AREA IS STILL BLOCKED OFF WITH YELLOW CRIME SCENE TAPE…ALONG WITH A RED CAR IN THE PARKING LOT WITH ITS DOOR OPEN. IT IS UNCLEAR IF THE VEHICLE IS CONNECTED TO THE INCIDENT AT THE LIQUOR STORE.
