Thanksgiving Wine Pairings

WHAT WE WANT IS ACID IN OUR WINE. WHY ACID? WHAT’S OUR FIRST ONE? WHAT’S A CELEBRATION WITHOUT BUBBLES? CREMONT IS A SPARKLING WINE MADE IN FRANCE OUTSIDE OF THE CHAMPAIGN REGION. THIS IS MADE IN BURGUNDY WHICH CHAMPAIGN IS A PART OF. YOU GET GOOD ACIDS, GREAT BUBBLES AND MINERAL AND FRUIT THAT WILL SATISFY MOST EVERYONE. I ENJOY THAT. DELICIOUS, RIGHT? JUST DRINK UP. ENJOY. I NEED IT. YOU HAVE SOME WHITES. I DO HAVE SOME WHITES. WE WILL START WITH THE MIDDLE ONE. RIESLING IS A GO TO CHOICE. ONCE AGAIN IT’S THE ACID THAT WILL STAND UP WELL TO THE FLAVORS. OH, I REALLY LIKE THAT. MOST PEOPLE THINK OF RIESLING AS BEING SWEET. I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT. BUT IT IS NOT SWEET. IT HAS THE FRUIT FLAVOR THAT WILL SATISFY MAYBE NONWINE DRINKERS OR PEOPLE WHO PREFER SWEET WINES. IT HAS THAT ACID THAT BALANCES IT. AND IT’S LIKE $10. NOW YOU ARE TALKING. EVERYTHING ON THE TABLE IS UNDER $20. IF YOU WANT TO BE MORE ADVENTUROUS WITH YOUR WHITES, THIS IS A TRADITIONAL FRENCH GRAPE. SMELLS LIKE GRAPE JUICE. THIS IS A GREAT WINE THAT GROWS WELL HERE. A LITTLE ACID BUT IT IS A DRY WINE WITH GREAT FRUIT AND CITRUS. YEAH. IT HOLDS UP AND EVEN SWEET WINE DRIPPINGERS LOVE IT — DRINKERS LOVE IT. THIS ONE SO FAR IS MY FAVORITE. THIS IS UNDER $20. THIS IS $11 OR $12 DEPENDING WHERE YOU GET IT. NOW TO REDS. WE HAVE TO GRADUATE. WE START WITH PINOT NOIR. THIS IS TYPICAL FOR THANKSGIVING DAY. IT PAIRS WELL WITH THE TURKEY AND WITH THE HAM. THIS ONE FROM CALIFORNIA IS JUICY BUT WE ARE STILL TALKING ABOUT THE ACID COMPONENT. IT IS WELL BALANCED WITH A JUICY FINISH. IT WILL PLEASE MOST PALATES. IT PAIRS BEAUTIFULLY WITH PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING ON YOUR PLATE. I LIKE IT. SO IF YOU ARE WANTING A RED, THIS WOULD PROBABLY BE THE ONE. YES. CALIFORNIA RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY, YOU WILL PLEASE A LOT OF PEOPLE AND IT WILL PAIR WELL WITH YOUR FOOD AS WELL. FINALLY, IF YOU WANT TO GET REALLY ADVENTUROUS, THIS IS MORGON. THIS IS A SMALL REGION VAT. YOU ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO GET NICE GRAPE FLAVORS. THESE ARE WELL MADE WINES. IT’S GOT A LITTLE BIT OF SPICE, A LITTLE BIT CHALKINESS. OH, I LIKE THIS. THE COMPLEXITY GOES REALLY WELL WITH THE THANKSGIVING MEAL AND IT IS FUN TO JUST SIT AROUND AND DRINK AS WELL. IT’S JUICY AND FRUITY AND MOST GUESTS WILL ENJOY IT. I LIKE IT.
