Whiteclay liquor store owners ask Lancaster judge to stop next week’s LCC hearing

♪ ANDREW: THE BATTLE OVER BEER SALES IN WHITECLAY MOVED TO COURTHOUSE IN LINCOLN FRIDAY. ACTIVISTS RALLYING TO MAKE SURE A JUDGE DOESN’T STOP A HEARING THAT COULD DETERMINE WHETHER THE LIQUOR STORES SHOULD REMAIN OPEN.>>I HOPE AND BELIEVE THIS NIGHTMARE IS COMING TO AN END. ANDREW: BUT THE ATTORNEY REPRESENTING THE BEER STORE SAYS THE COMMISSION ACTED ILLEGALLY. THE OWNERS WEREN’T PROPERLY NOTIFIED BEFORE THE COMMISSION ORDERED THEM TO REAPPLY RATHER THAN RENEW THERE LICENSES. AND ONLY NEW APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO PROVE CONDITIONS LIKE ADEQUATE LAW ENFORCEMENT.>>THAT’S WHAT ALL THIS STUFF IS ILLEGAL. BECAUSE MY CLIENTS HAVEN’T BEEN TREATED THE WAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO. ANDREW: LAWYERS FOR THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE AND 5 SHERIDAN COUNTY RESIDENTS PROTESTING THE LICENSES CALLED THE MOTION AN END RUN AROUND THE HEARING SCHEDULED FOR NEXT THURSDAY.>>IF YOU WERE TO GRANT THE INJUNCTION, MY CLIENTS WHO HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT WHETHER THESE LICENSES SHOULD BE RENEWED WOULD BE MUTED. ANDREW: THE JUDGE TOOK THE MOTION UNDER ADVISEMENT AND SAID HE WOULD TRY TO MAKE A DECISION BY NEXT WEEK. AFTER THE HEARING, THE ATTORNEY FOR THE OWNERS SAYS THE PUSH TO SHUT DOWN THE STORES IS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED AND PREDICTED A LONG LEGAL BATTLE NOT MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. SOMETHING ACTIVISTS SAT THEY ARE ALSO PREPARED FOR.>>I LIKE THE BEER SELLERS HAVE RESOLVE. AND I LIKE THEM WILL NEVER GO AWAY.
