WELL JORDAN, IT WASN’T THAT LONG AGO WHEN YOU COULD’T BUY WINE AT A TENNESSEE GROCERY STORE ANY DAY OF THE WEEK THAT CHANGED JUST A FEW YEARS AGO–IN 2016–WHEN THE SALE OF WINE IN GROCERY STORES WAS LEGALIZED SIX DAYS A WEEK, EVERY DAY BUT SUNDAY— WELL STARTING THIS SUNDAY–YOU CAN BUY A BOTTLE ANY DAY…WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A FEW HOLIDAYS LIKE CHRISTMAS, EASTER AND THANKSGIVING THAT’S THANKS TO A CHANGE IN STATE LAW… THE SAME ONE THAT ALLOWED LIQUOR STORES TO BE OPEN ON SUNDAYS…EFFECTIVE BACK IN APRIL OF 2018 NOW THE CHANGE FACED PUSHBACK FROM SOME LAWMAKERS ARGUING THAT SUNDAY IS A DAY OF WORSHIP BUT TODAY–EMPLOYEE S AND CUSTOMERS I SPOKE SAYING THIS CHANGE IS ABOUT CONVENIENCE…ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE WHO DO MOST OF THEIR SHOPPING ON THE WEEKENDS. “AFTER CHURCH, EVERYONE ALWAYS COMES IN AND A LOT OF THE TIME THEY’RE WANTING TO GRAB A BOTTLE ON THEIR WAY HOME AND NOW THEY HAVE THAT OPTION.” “PREVIOUSLY I WOULD WANT TO PICK UP A BOTTLE AND I COULDN’T DO IT SO I WOULD NOT COME SHOP.” THE ASSISTANT MANAGER AT THIS FOOD CITY ANTICIPAITES THIS WILL IMPROVE THEIR SALES… ESPECIALLY AT FOOD CITY LOCATIONS CLOSE TO THE VIRGINIA…WHERE PEOPLE COULD ALREADY BUY WINE ON SUNDAYS AND ONE MORE THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS THAT HOURS FOR WINE SALES ARE MODIFIED ON SUNDAYS UNDER THIS LAW SO THAT MEANS ON SUNDAY, YOU CAN BUY BETWEEN 10 AM TO 11 PM WHERE AS MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY YOU CAN BUY STARTING AT 8AM LIVE IN JOHNSON CITY, JACKIE DEFUSCO, NEWS CHANNEL 11, IN YOUR CORNER.
